Career Readiness Certificate  "CRC" Program - AB&T administrates the Northeast Tennessee Career Readiness Certificate Program. The CRC utilizes the WorkKeys® assessment test developed by ACT, Inc. The WorkKeys® assessment substantiates to employers that an individual possesses the basic workplace skills required for 21st century jobs. The assessment and testing for CRC is coordinated between AB&T and the Northeast Tennessee Career Centers. The work skills assessment is for individuals who want to  verify that he or she can handle tasks that are common and vital in today's workplaces - such as finding information, reading instructions and directions, and working with figures. YouthBuild Program – AB&T operates the YouthBuild Program through a grant received from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Eligible YouthBuild participants earn an hourly wage while training in the construction trades and working toward obtaining their GED. The program provides hands on learning opportunities in construction and GED instruction during the classroom component of YouthBuild. YouthBuild is a comprehensive youth and community development program that addresses core issues facing low income and at risk youth: education, jobs, counseling, and leadership development.  For more information on AB&T's YouthBuild programs please visit the YouthBuild web page.

 

WIA Out of School Youth Programs – AB&T provides programs for out of school youth (high school graduates and dropouts) through the Career Center System and other competitively procured programs. The primary goal of the out of school youth program is to provide occupational skills training and supportive services to enable youth to meet the requirements for high demand occupations. Various training opportunities are available to youth through area training institutions or training contractors. Opportunities are also available for youth who have dropped out of school and have become disconnected from mainstream education. These youth are offered another opportunity to successfully transition into skilled, educated, productive citizens. 

 

Health Care Career Builder Program - One WIA program available to out of school youth is the Health Care Career Builder Program contracted through Appalachian Christian Village. This program provides job shadowing and mentoring opportunities in conjunction with CNA Training provided through Tennessee Technology Center in Elizabethton and Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City. Participants who successfully complete their training are hired by Appalachian Christian Village at a competitive wage. After completion of one year of employment at Appalachian Christian Village, these youth are then provided the opportunity to pursue training to become a licensed practical nurse.

 

WIA In School Youth Programs - AB&T operates youth programs for in school youth. In School youth programs are provided in area high schools through two contractors. East Tennessee State University Center for Community Outreach and Family Services provides programs in Carter, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington Counties while Northeast State Community College provides programs in Sullivan County. The primary goal of AB&T’s in school youth programs is to provide the additional assistance needed for disadvantaged youth to receive a high school diploma while obtaining work readiness skills and leadership skills. The ultimate obtain the skills needed to be gainfully employed.

 

Career Fast Track Program – The Career Fast Track Program is Northeast State Community College’s latest workforce development initiative. AB&T partnered with Northeast State in this endeavor and administers the State funding from TN Department of Labor and Workforce Development for the program. The Career Fast Track Program is the first program of this kind in the State of Tennessee and enables high school seniors to complete 12 hours of college credits in a technical education program prior to graduating from high school. Students completing this first semester of technical education courses at Northeast State can then enter employment or enroll in a co-op program with a local industry while continuing their education or apprenticeship at the College.

 

WIA Adult and Dislocated Worker Programs - WIA Adult and Dislocated Worker Programs are strategically designed to increase employment opportunities, meet the needs and expectations of employers, assist job seekers, and leverage the availability and variety of education and skills training. AB&T’s products and services are tied directly to the purpose of linking skilled workers to the employer needs of the region. 

 

Incumbent Worker Training Program, funded by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce, -The Incumbent Worker Training Program provides grant funding for customized training to existing for-profit businesses to assist in effectively retaining and keeping businesses competitive through upgrade skills training for existing full-time employees. 

 

Governor’s Fast Track Program - AB&T has committed to support linkages through the Governor’s Fast Track program which targets new and expanding business opportunities. These initiatives bring additional training resources into the region and enhance relationships between the workforce system and other regional entities.

 

Disability Navigator Program  -  The Disability Program Navigator acts as a change agent to advance employment opportunities for all persons, but specifically for job seekers with disabilities. The goals of this program are to create a more accommodating employment system and to bring to employers an expanded resource for a productive workforce.

 

Tennessee SHARE Network (TNSHARE Network) - AB&T is a pilot program for the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the U.S. Department of Labor - Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, SHARE Network.  The SHARE Network is designed to improve the effectiveness of the TN Career Center system by building and enhancing partnerships between faith-based and community organizations.
